I decided this year to throw out almost all at-home reading. We’ve been reading almost exclusively together in class. We’ll see how the AP exam goes. 😬
Many things of interest to me in this post and thank you for it. Especially Mrs. Vendler’s comment about poetry, especially criticism, in which I concur: “A commentary that leaves out style and structure leaves out everything worth talking about.” As long as style and structure are made useful to the ideational attainment of the work.

Finding ways to balance a sufficient quantity AND quality of reading is one of the toughest parts of the job. God bless your teaching!
